The Perfect Me (2012)

In my series of self-portraits, I would like to explore the issues of self-identity and social perceptions in an age where photographs are readily and easily retouched with programs such as Photoshop to achieve results of perfection or alternate identities. The viewer is made to question the portrayal of women in outlets such as the media, question the accepted representation of women in society and the ethics of photo manipulation in showing or hiding the truth. As the series of photographs progresses I will be reluctant to allow the Photoshop user to change my appearance. Inmy final image, I invite the viewer to interact and pose within my life-sized printed and heavily manipulated body as the ‘perfect’ magazine cover image.
